Meta has announced that developers can now create applications for its Ray-Ban Display glasses, enhancing the device's capabilities by allowing third-party app support. This new feature will be available through both mobile and web apps, with access rolling out in developer preview over the coming weeks.
The integration enables developers to leverage existing tools to create display experiences, whether adapting an iOS or Android mobile app or developing new applications. A video demonstration revealed a flight identification app that utilizes the Ray-Ban Display's capabilities.
This announcement coincides with the upcoming launch of Android XR's hardware, which is expected to include Samsung's audio-focused Galaxy Glasses followed by display-equipped models. The Android platform's compatibility with new form factors may provide significant advantages for app development within this ecosystem.
Meta's advancements include the Blayzer and Scriber models of Ray-Ban glasses, both designed for prescription lenses and priced at $499.
