Analyst Jeff Pu has projected that Apple will ship 250 million iPhones in 2026, marking a 2% increase from the previous year. This growth comes despite an anticipated 4% decline in global smartphone shipments due to challenges in the market, particularly affecting Android's low-to-mid range sales. Apple’s market share is predicted to rise to 21%, reflecting a steady upward trend from 20% in 2025 and 19% in 2024.
Pu's investor note also revealed that the upcoming iPhone 18 series will include models such as the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Fold, slated for launch in September 2026. Notably, the iPhone Fold will utilize Touch ID instead of Face ID, showcasing a design that incorporates both aluminum and titanium materials. The internal display of the Fold is expected to be 7.8 inches, with an external display measuring 5.3 inches.
Additionally, Apple is increasing its production forecast for the iPhone 17 to 59 million units in the first quarter of 2026, up from 56 million. This demand may contribute to the company's competitive positioning despite broader market challenges. The iPhone 18 lineup will also feature enhancements aimed at supporting advanced on-device AI functionalities.
