Apple is set to unveil its next-generation C2 modem and N2 chip in the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro. Analyst Jeff Pu reported that these advancements are part of the company's commitment to enhancing its in-house silicon capabilities, which now include 5G modems and wireless chips. This marks a significant evolution from the previous reliance on external suppliers for these components.
The introduction of the C1 modem with the iPhone 16e brought notable benefits such as improved battery longevity and enhanced performance in crowded data environments. Following this, the C1X modem offered speeds that could reach up to twice that of its predecessor. Additionally, last fall saw the launch of Apple's N1 wireless chip, which integrated Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread, resulting in better performance and reliability for features like AirDrop and Personal Hotspot.
As expectations rise for the iPhone 18 Pro, the anticipated C2 modem is expected to include mmWave 5G support, enhancing connectivity options. While details on the N2 chip remain sparse, the company's track record suggests that it will bring substantial improvements, continuing the trend of innovation seen with previous iterations of their silicon components.
