Apple is set to introduce a new feature called Suggested Genmoji in its upcoming iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 updates, aimed at enhancing user engagement with the Genmoji functionality. This feature will analyze users' photo libraries and frequently typed phrases to generate relevant emoji suggestions, which will be optional for those who prefer not to use it.
Initially launched in iOS 18.2, Genmoji allowed users to create custom emojis based on their prompts, although it faced criticism for inconsistent results. The feature saw improvements in iOS 26, permitting deeper customization and the combination of two emojis.
With the introduction of Suggested Genmoji, Apple aims to make the emoji generation process more intuitive and context-aware. However, the reliance on on-device models from previous iterations raises questions about potential updates to the underlying technology. Users will have the choice to disable the feature if they wish.
