Samsung recently unveiled its new Galaxy S26 series during an event in San Francisco on the 25th, which included a hands-on demonstration in Toronto. While the privacy display has garnered attention, a standout feature of the series is the new Horizon Lock for video recording.
This software-driven stabilization tool, integrated into the Samsung Camera app's 'Super Steady' mode, mimics the functionality of a traditional gimbal. Although available on all three models—Galaxy S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra—it performs optimally on the S26 Ultra, which benefits from a higher megapixel count and an enhanced image signal processor.
Horizon Lock requires sufficient ambient light to function effectively, as inadequate lighting can hinder performance, resulting in video artifacts. In well-lit conditions, the feature offers a significant advantage, potentially eliminating the need for a separate gimbal, which typically costs between $150 and $200.
