Google has introduced its new laptop concept known as “Googlebook,” which merges Android with ChromeOS, aiming to enhance the user experience with the integration of its AI technology, Gemini. This development was highlighted during “The Android Show,” where Google presented features expected to arrive on Android devices later this year.
The key feature showcased was the “Magic Pointer” cursor, designed to facilitate interaction by allowing users to activate Gemini with a simple gesture. While this innovation is seen as beneficial, it is the only new functionality presented, as other features, including “Create your Widget” support, are already available on Android phones.
Additional capabilities of Googlebook include the ability to mirror mobile apps and access files from Android devices, features that have been part of ChromeOS for some time. The announcement also mentioned premium hardware and a distinct “Glow Bar” as a hardware highlight. However, the overall reception indicates skepticism regarding whether this initiative meets the evolving needs of laptop users.
