CMF, the budget brand of Nothing, has announced it will not introduce a new smartphone this year, primarily due to soaring memory prices. Co-founder Akis Evangelidis communicated this decision in a post on X, emphasizing their commitment to transparency with consumers. Although a successor to the Phone Pro 2 was in development, the current cost of RAM has made it unfeasible for the brand to produce a device that meets their standards at an acceptable price point.
The rise in RAM prices stems from supply shortages linked to increased production demands from AI developments. This trend has led major companies like Apple and Samsung to indicate potential price increases for their products. Additionally, a report from IDC forecasts that PC shipments may decline by nearly 10 percent this year due to these higher costs.
Despite the absence of a new phone release, CMF plans to unveil several new products and explore entirely new categories, maintaining a focus on innovation. The Phone Pro 2, launched in April of the previous year, remains their latest flagship device, noted for its lightweight design and impressive battery life.
