Researcher @M1Astra has discovered indications in the iOS 27 developer beta files that a foldable iPhone may debut in the fall. This potential launch aligns with Apple’s typical September hardware announcements, suggesting that the company could finally present its version of a foldable smartphone.
While Apple has not yet released any foldable devices, the code reveals terms such as “foldState” and “mechanicalAngleDegrees,” implying the software's capability to recognize the device's folding status and display usage. The upcoming foldable device is expected to operate on iOS 27, revealed during the recent WWDC keynote.
In contrast to competitors like Samsung and Huawei, which have been in the foldable market for over five years, Apple's entry will face high expectations. Consumer concerns about thickness are significant, especially when considering how easily a device can fit into pockets. The iPhone Air, introduced last year with a depth of just 5.6 millimeters, serves as a benchmark for Apple's design approach. If the foldable features two screens, it would measure approximately 11.2 millimeters thick, which is notably thinner than many existing foldables, except for Samsung's latest model, the Galaxy Z Fold7.
