A report indicates that Apple is actively developing smart glasses, with potential designs set to compete against the Meta Ray-Ban Display. The anticipated unveiling could occur in late 2026, followed by a launch in 2027. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reveals that Apple is testing various styles including rectangular, oval, and circular frames, which may feature multiple color options.
These smart glasses are expected to include uniquely oriented oval camera lenses and integrated speakers for phone calls and music, mirroring functionalities found in existing augmented reality products from competitors like Xreal and TCL. Additionally, the forthcoming glasses could utilize an upgraded Siri AI, enabling voice commands for navigation and other augmented reality tasks.
Despite the tripling of sales for Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses in 2025, the smart glasses market has yet to achieve mainstream acceptance akin to smartphones or laptops. Nonetheless, tech giants view this emerging technology as a significant opportunity, particularly in the realm of AI wearables. Apple's history of successful product launches may give it an advantage in entering this new market, although its previous device, the Apple Vision Pro, has not performed well in sales.
