Apple Inc. is advancing its iPhone lineup with the anticipated launch of a second-generation iPhone Air, scheduled for spring 2027. This model, referred to as V62, will introduce a second rear camera aimed at enhancing ultrawide-angle photography capabilities, according to anonymous insiders familiar with the developments.
Currently undergoing advanced testing, the new Air maintains its sleek design while efforts are underway to improve battery performance. Enhancements may stem from either a larger battery or increased energy efficiency, although the latter may pose challenges due to the device's compact form factor. The first-generation Air debuted in September 2025 as part of Apple’s broader initiative to innovate within its $210 billion iPhone business.
This spring release would allow approximately 18 months between the initial and subsequent models. Changes to Apple's typical release strategy are also in motion; this year’s September launch will focus on premium models, including the iPhone 18 Pro and a new foldable device, with the standard iPhone 18 set to debut alongside the refreshed Air about six months later.
Additionally, Apple plans to unveil two versions of its 20th anniversary iPhone in the fall of 2027, alongside a second iteration of the foldable smartphone. The updated Air will feature the A20 Pro processor, which will also be incorporated in the upcoming fall iPhones.
