Apple is now targeting a launch for its AI smart glasses by the end of 2027, following delays in development. Initially, the company had planned to unveil the glasses, known by the code name N50, by the end of 2026 and ship them early the next year. The decision to postpone is influenced by concerns over the capabilities of Apple's visual AI technology, which the company does not want to release prematurely.
In addition to the smart glasses, a more affordable iteration of the Apple Vision Pro, named Vision Air, may hit the market as early as 2028 or 2029. Despite previous reports indicating that development on Vision Air had been halted, Apple appears to be reallocating resources to support this project.
The upcoming smart glasses are expected to serve as a platform for Siri and Apple's Visual Intelligence features, with design elements that include oval-shaped cameras and various frame styles. Apple aims to capture a diverse consumer base, appealing to those who use prescription glasses, wear sunglasses, or seek fashionable eyewear.
