Apple's forthcoming iOS 27 update is set to introduce an innovative feature for Apple Wallet, enabling users to create custom passes for tickets that are not natively supported. This enhancement allows importation of scannable QR codes to generate personalized passes, addressing a gap where certain platforms do not integrate directly with the app.
Since its launch as Apple Passbook in 2021, Apple Wallet has gained significant traction, now accommodating a variety of items such as credit and debit cards, gift cards, and digital keys. Users in select states can even store identification documents like driver's licenses. Despite the app's extensive capabilities, some ticketing platforms remain incompatible.
The update is anticipated to be showcased in June during the Worldwide Developers Conference, with a public release expected in September to coincide with the launch of the new iPhone 18. Apple is reportedly testing different design templates for passes, including distinct colors for various categories like events and memberships.
While the custom pass feature may not overshadow the anticipated launch of a Gemini-powered Siri, it represents just one of several new additions in iOS 27. A request for comment from Apple has yet to be answered.
