Snapseed, Google's photo editing application, is poised for a significant update on Android, following the successful release of version 3.0 for iOS in June. This update aims to revitalize the app, which many users felt had been neglected in favor of other Google projects, particularly Google Photos.
Development of the Android update was confirmed by a Snapseed team member on Reddit, indicating that work began in November and that the public release is still a few months away. The latest iOS version features a complete redesign, introducing a new interface that organizes tools into three main tabs: Looks, Faves, and Tools, along with a new icon and an image grid for edited pictures.
The update includes various tools such as Adjust & Correct, Retouch & Transform, Style, and Creative options, while also incorporating a dial-based controller for adjustments. Notably, the iOS version has added a Snapseed Camera with retro film filters, which may appear in the upcoming Android release. This update could shift user attention back to Snapseed from Google Photos, which offers its own set of editing tools and AI features.
