A new feature for Google Pixel devices will allow users to disable the search bar in the Pixel Launcher, addressing a long-standing user complaint. This development comes as part of the anticipated Android 17 QPR1 update, which is expected to be finalized later this year.
According to a recent leak from Mystic Leaks, a screen recording of a beta version of Android 17 QPR1 reveals a toggle within the Pixel Launcher settings. Users can navigate to Search bar settings and deactivate the search bar, which results in docked apps being positioned closer to the bottom of the screen.
The Pixel Launcher has been known for its streamlined interface, but the inclusion of both the “At a Glance” widget and the search bar had limited customization options. With the ability to remove the search bar, users may enjoy a more personalized homescreen experience. Earlier this week, Google released the second beta of Android 17 QPR1, indicating that the stable release may be imminent.
