AT&T has launched the AmiGo Jr. Phone, aimed at helping parents manage their children's smartphone usage while addressing concerns about screen time and social media. The device, a Samsung Galaxy A16, features a 6.7-inch display, 128GB of storage, and a robust 5,000 mAh battery, along with a trio of cameras that includes a 50-megapixel main camera.
This phone is designed exclusively for use with the AmiGo app, which allows parents to impose controls directly on the device. The app enhances existing parental features in Android 16 by introducing Safe Zones for location alerts and a School Mode to limit distractions during specific times. Priced at $3 per month on a 36-month contract, parents must also secure an unlimited data line starting at $61 monthly, plus a $35 activation fee.
AT&T noted that approximately 40% of its customers are parents, highlighting the demand for a child-friendly phone. Erin Scarborough, AT&T's senior vice president, emphasized the importance of trust and safety in the decision-making process for parents considering the phone for their kids. The AmiGo Jr. Phone is currently available for purchase online, in AT&T retail locations, and through the MyAT&T app.
