Ubisoft has suspended live services for Rainbow Six Siege following a significant breach that resulted in hackers distributing 2 billion in-game credits to each player. This incident, confirmed on December 27, prompted an emergency shutdown of the game’s servers and marketplace by the next day.
Players reported that upon logging in, they received not only the massive credits but also rare items such as skins and weapons. The hackers managed to gain control over crucial online systems, including messaging and banning features, as evidenced by shared screenshots. Given that 15,000 R6 credits sell for $99.99, the total value of credits given out amounts to around $13.33 million.
On December 28, the Rainbow Six Siege team announced plans to reverse the credits distributed, starting the rollback process at 11 AM UTC. They emphasized the careful handling of the situation and stated that players would not face bans for utilizing the credits. Currently, a small group of players is testing the game in preparation for a broader relaunch.
