Senator Kirsten Gillibrand emphasized the urgency of addressing key issues related to consumer protection and ethical standards before the Senate can vote on the CLARITY Act. Speaking at the Consensus conference in Miami, she stated that lawmakers must meet three critical conditions, including the integration of ethics provisions into the legislation.
Gillibrand warned that without clear ethics guidelines, there would be no support for the bill, highlighting the importance of preventing conflicts of interest among public officials. Her comments reflect concerns regarding potential financial gains for lawmakers from the crypto sector due to insider connections.
The senator projected that if these issues are adequately addressed, a vote could occur before the August recess, which starts on August 10. Meanwhile, discussions about stablecoin yield have emerged among senators, potentially paving the way for progress on the market structure bill, although conflicts of interest remain unaddressed.
