Starting in 2027, France will cease the certification of security products lacking quantum-resistant encryption, as announced by the national cybersecurity agency, ANSSI, at the France Quantum 2026 Summit. The agency aims for businesses to exclusively utilize quantum-safe products by 2030, reflecting a global shift towards safeguarding cryptographic standards against emerging quantum threats.
ANSSI's chief of staff, Samih Souissi, highlighted that this decision is not merely technical but also involves governance and industrial planning. The cessation of certifications is critical for vendors seeking government contracts, as compliance with post-quantum cryptography standards will be mandatory by the 2027 deadline.
This initiative mirrors the United States' approach, where the National Security Agency has set a similar timeline for implementing quantum-resistant algorithms, known as CNSA 2.0, by the same year. Such parallel actions by major global authorities underscore the urgent need to address vulnerabilities in cryptography posed by quantum computing advancements.
