The South Korean cryptocurrency exchange Bithumb has identified over $200 million in dormant assets across approximately 2.6 million inactive accounts. This revelation is part of an initiative aimed at recovering assets from users who have not logged in or made transactions for over a year. The total amount of dormant assets is reported to be around 291.6 billion Korean won, with some accounts remaining inactive for more than a decade.
Bithumb revealed that the largest dormant asset found is valued at about $2.84 million, while the longest inactivity period recorded is 4,380 days. Some of these dormant assets have experienced remarkable returns, exceeding 61,000%, which showcases the significant growth potential of early crypto investments.
In previous recovery campaigns, Bithumb successfully assisted around 36,000 users in reclaiming dormant assets worth about $50 million. The exchange intends to contact eligible customers directly and provide support for account recovery, emphasizing its commitment to customer protection and asset rediscovery.
