On March 25, 2026, Seattle served as the venue for a significant roundtable hosted by the Washington Technology Industry Association (WTIA). This event brought together leaders from various sectors to discuss how Washington state can elevate its status in the global artificial intelligence landscape.
Attendees examined a white paper titled “Seattle’s AI Advantage: The Path to Global Leadership,” authored by futurist Alex Lightman. The document outlines six key advantages that Seattle possesses, including its wealth of clean energy, proximity to tech giants like Microsoft and Amazon, and advancements in quantum computing.
Despite the promising insights of the report, WTIA leaders emphasized the importance of taking actionable steps to harness these strengths. Randa Minkarah, WTIA chief operations executive, highlighted the need for a coherent narrative to showcase Washington as a hub for responsible AI and advanced technology. The challenge remains to mobilize efforts effectively after the discussions conclude.
