Google has officially discontinued its AI image generation app, Pixel Studio, with the latest software update now being distributed. Users of the app will be redirected to Gemini, where they can access the new interface featuring an "Open Gemini" button that directs them to the Play Store for additional resources.
Initially launched in 2024 alongside the Pixel 9 smartphone, Pixel Studio offered functionalities such as prompt-based image creation and sticker generation from existing photos. The decision to shut down the app comes after a gradual reduction of its features, which began earlier this year when AI tools were removed from the photo editor.
Reportedly, the app's discontinuation was anticipated since Google signaled its intention to wind down Pixel Studio in February. Users are now encouraged to explore alternatives like Nano Banana for image generation within Gemini.
