The National League of Cities (NLC) has introduced a new forum dedicated to AI and Emerging Technology to assist local governments in navigating artificial intelligence. This initiative aims to provide essential resources for the effective governance of AI technologies, addressing both opportunities and associated risks.
The first meeting of the forum was held virtually in March, with an in-person session planned for November 2026 at the NLC City Summit. Key figures such as Ginger Armbruster, Elena Bolbolian, and Martha Castex-Tatum are among the initial members, emphasizing the forum's collaborative nature. The forum is backed by Tyler Technologies, which specializes in public sector technology solutions.
As part of its mission, the forum will focus on sharing practical tools and knowledge to facilitate the implementation of AI in local governance. Future discussions will explore how AI can improve service delivery and internal capabilities while promoting peer learning among municipalities. As the initiative progresses, the NLC intends to expand its membership and resources.
