Google is enhancing its AI capabilities with the rollout of Personal Intelligence for Gemini. This new feature allows the AI to analyze user data from Gmail, Photos, and YouTube history for tailored responses. While the initial deployment is limited to Gemini, the company is now extending this functionality to its Search platform, promising personalized results by integrating insights from various Google applications.
The feature is available on an opt-in basis for subscribers of Google AI Pro and AI Ultra, specifically connecting to Gmail and Google Photos for the time being. Users can expect recommendations that align closely with their preferences without the need for constant input. An example shared by Robby Stein, Google Search's VP of Product, illustrates how the tool can suggest items based on recent purchases noted in emails.
For instance, if a user plans to visit Chicago in March, the AI can suggest suitable outerwear that complements the weather and personal style. Currently, connections to Gmail and Google Photos are disabled by default, ensuring user privacy until they choose to enable the feature. The rollout is part of Google Labs and is taking place in the US.
