Google is enhancing its AI search features, introducing a new section for "Expert Advice" that incorporates insights from forums, social media, and Reddit. This update aims to display firsthand opinions more prominently, with a preview of discussions now appearing in AI-generated responses. The company plans to include details like the creator's name or community handle alongside these insights to aid user judgment on what to explore.
Beginning with these changes, users will notice links to in-depth articles at the conclusion of AI responses, providing further reading on specific topics. Additionally, if users have subscriptions linked to their Google accounts, the AI will highlight relevant sources from those publications. Since their introduction in 2024 and 2025, AI Overviews and AI Mode have undergone continual improvements.
This shift towards utilizing Reddit and similar platforms is part of a broader strategy, reflecting a trend where users increasingly regard online forums as valuable information sources compared to traditional search results. Google has reported that its AI tools have driven a rise in searches and "high-quality clicks." However, whether these updates truly benefit the decreasing number of publications referenced remains to be seen.
