Google has introduced a new beta feature for Gemini known as Personal Intelligence, aimed at enhancing the personalization of responses by utilizing data from the user's Google ecosystem. This feature allows Gemini to connect with various services such as Gmail, Photos, Search, and YouTube History, providing more tailored insights based on the user's data.
The functionality of Personal Intelligence lies in its ability to reason across diverse sources and retrieve specific details, such as photos or emails, to answer user queries. By default, this feature will remain disabled, but users can enable it and select which Google apps Gemini can access. Notably, it will not utilize data from these services for every question, but rather when a personalized response is deemed beneficial.
Google emphasizes that the data accessed by Gemini already resides on its servers, ensuring user privacy. Demonstrating its capabilities, Google provided an example where Gemini successfully identified tire specifications for a 2019 Honda minivan by analyzing relevant emails and photos. This feature has been praised for its ability to enhance planning, as noted by Josh Woodward, Vice President of Google Gemini.
