The upcoming feature from Google, codenamed bonobo, is set to enhance the capabilities of its Gemini AI, allowing users to automate tasks such as ride bookings and food orders. This functionality will be launched as a Labs feature within the Google app, starting with limited support for specific applications, primarily first-party Google services.
Currently, users on the AI Pro or Ultra tiers can access a new AI-driven Auto Browse feature in Chrome. The integration of Gemini on Android is under development, but its agentic capabilities will require at least Android 16 QPR3 to function. A recent teardown by 9to5Google of the beta version reveals how tasks can be completed without direct interaction with the apps.
Google emphasizes that users will maintain complete control over the process, with the ability to halt or manage tasks as needed. Privacy measures are in place, including the review of screenshots by trained personnel to enhance service quality, provided users have Keep Activity enabled. An announcement for this feature is expected alongside the Android update in March.
