Action Canada is highlighting the need for the federal government to focus on establishing a cohesive national framework for comprehensive sexuality education (CSE). This comes as concerns grow over the impact of AI-generated misinformation on sexual health and related topics, emphasizing the necessity for reliable information in this field.
The organization points out that the current trend among tech companies to prioritize rapid development is detrimental to sexual health services and education. The potential negative consequences call for a more careful approach that safeguards the wellbeing of Canadians. Misinformation related to sexual health is proliferating on social media, often leading to serious health implications.
According to the Canadian Medical Association’s 2025 Health and Media Annual Tracking Survey, 23% of participants indicated that online health advice adversely affected their wellbeing. Furthermore, AI platforms like ChatGPT have been found to provide incorrect responses to sexual health questions 36% of the time, which may hinder individuals from obtaining necessary care.
Despite other countries taking steps to combat misinformation, such as restricting social media access for minors, Canada has been slow to respond. Biased moderation practices on these platforms often lead to censorship of critical sexual health information, while allowing the circulation of harmful content, further complicating efforts to provide accurate education.
