The funding round saw participation from notable investors like BetaWorks and Abstract Ventures, highlighting a growing interest in essential infrastructure for advanced AI systems.
Instead of creating its own hardware, Era is developing a unified "intelligence layer" that facilitates operations across various AI gadgets. This approach reflects the company’s vision that the future of AI hardware will not be limited to singular devices but will expand into multiple forms, including smart glasses and wearable tech. Presently, the platform is compatible with over 130 large language models sourced from more than 14 different providers.
By functioning as a foundational software layer, Era aims to replicate the pivotal role of operating systems in smartphones, providing developers with tools for orchestration and model selection. This initiative comes at a crucial time as early AI hardware products face challenges in market acceptance. Era views this fragmentation as an opportunity, anticipating an increase in demand for a standardized software backbone as diverse use cases continue to emerge.
