OpenAI has introduced a new personal finance feature for U.S. ChatGPT Pro users, allowing them to link their accounts with over 12,000 financial institutions. This update aims to provide users with a personalized financial dashboard displaying recent account activities and enables them to ask tailored financial questions.
The functionality is also backed by a partnership with Intuit, allowing users to book sessions with local tax professionals directly through ChatGPT. OpenAI intends to expand this feature to all users in the future, enhancing financial planning by utilizing individual financial contexts, including debts and savings goals.
Over 200 million users seek assistance from ChatGPT monthly for budgeting and investment strategies, reflecting a strong demand for such tools. OpenAI assures that connections to bank accounts will be secure, stating that the chatbot will not access full account numbers or modify accounts, but will still retrieve necessary data like balances and transactions.
While some may be cautious about sharing sensitive information due to past data leaks, OpenAI claims that the new feature will be safe. Users can also choose to share their data to help improve the AI models, although opting in is entirely voluntary.
