Apple is poised to introduce a new version of Siri, transforming the virtual assistant into a chatbot similar to ChatGPT. This upcoming feature, known internally as “Campos,” is expected to be highlighted during Apple’s WWDC event in June, coinciding with the launch of iOS 27.
Previously, Apple’s senior vice president, Craig Federighi, expressed a desire for Siri to remain distinct from a traditional chatbot, emphasizing a more integrated AI experience. However, the competitive landscape, particularly with the rise of AI technologies from other firms, appears to have influenced a shift in strategy. Notably, the entry of OpenAI into the hardware market, led by former Apple design head Jony Ive, may have heightened Apple’s urgency to innovate.
Apple has faced challenges in keeping pace within the AI sector, having postponed enhancements to Siri and exploring partnerships with various AI technology providers. Earlier this month, Apple confirmed its collaboration with Google’s Gemini as its chosen AI partner.
