WhatsApp is expanding its guest chat feature, which allows users to initiate conversations with non-registered individuals, to beta testers on iOS and web platforms. Previously available on Android, this feature enables users to create a chat link from the “Invite a friend” section, which can be shared through SMS or various applications.
Once the link is accessed, a secure chat session is initiated via WhatsApp Web. The system generates a unique identifier for encryption, ensuring that messages remain confidential and accessible only to participants. Notably, the guest must accept terms, input their name, and initiate the conversation, while the chat remains exclusive to those who have the invite link.
Currently, the feature is limited to a small group of beta testers across platforms, with no specific timeline for broader availability. It’s important to note that functionalities such as group chats and media sharing are not yet supported, and guest chats will expire after 10 days of inactivity.
