WhatsApp is reportedly enhancing its Status feature by integrating it into the Chats tab, a move that could centralize its role within the messaging platform. The latest build available on TestFlight indicates that this functionality will allow users to see a carousel of Status updates from contacts, similar to Instagram's Stories.
Currently, users must swipe down from the chat list to access this new Status tray, which ranks updates based on user interactions, ensuring the most relevant content appears first. The feature, akin to Instagram's model, aims to streamline user access to important updates. Status updates will vanish after 24 hours and will include creative tools for customization.
Although this feature is not yet accessible, previous reports from WABetaInfo suggest that both Android and iOS versions of WhatsApp are being prepared for this enhancement. An official release timeline has not been disclosed, but the development hints at a potential rollout in the near future.
