In 2020, Leon Low transformed his home into an official bar named Bar59 after a friend's playful tagging on Google Maps. Located in his HDB flat in Serangoon, this private home bar has gained popularity, hosting an average of two to three sessions weekly for guests by reservation only.
Initially, Leon, 48, had little interest in cocktails, preferring whisky and wine. His perspective shifted after a detailed encounter with a bartender at FOC Pim Pam, who elaborated on the intricacies of a simple gin and tonic. This experience sparked a newfound passion for mixology, leading him to explore bartending literature and techniques.
Over the years, Low honed his skills by visiting bars and learning from various bartenders, eventually serving cocktails to family and friends. The casual gatherings he once hosted evolved into a structured experience at Bar59, where connections are fostered over thoughtfully crafted drinks.
