The European Commission (EC) has raised concerns regarding the failure of four adult content platforms to adequately shield minors from accessing their services. In findings released after a ten-month investigation, the EC identified Pornhub, Stripchat, XNXX, and XVideos as violating the Digital Services Act (DSA).
According to the regulatory body, the platforms' current age verification methods are insufficient, relying solely on users clicking a button to confirm they are over 18. The EC criticized additional measures like content warnings and adult-only labels for not effectively preventing underage access to inappropriate material.
Furthermore, the platforms were found to have inadequate assessments regarding the risks minors face on their sites, often prioritizing business interests over child protection. The EC has invited the platforms to respond to these findings and potentially rectify the issues. Should the platforms fail to comply with the DSA, they could face penalties reaching up to six percent of their global annual revenue.
