A recent wave of misinformation on the social media platform Bluesky has seen numerous accounts hijacked to disseminate false narratives, including that of Ben Gilbert, a professor at the Colorado School of Mines. This incident highlights a concerning tactic employed by Russian operatives to undermine support for Ukraine amidst ongoing conflict.
Gilbert's account was compromised without his consent, leading to the circulation of a video accusing France of contributing to police shortages due to its support for Ukraine. Researchers from Clemson University, collaborating with internet monitors known as the dTeam, confirmed the involvement of many influential figures who were also targeted, including journalists and artists.
The campaign appears linked to the Social Design Agency, based in Moscow, showcasing Russia's ongoing efforts to manipulate narratives and public opinion regarding the war that began in 2022. This operation utilizes advanced technology, including artificial intelligence, to create misleading content, further complicating the information landscape.
