Outages for Apple Music surged late on January 20, with over 1,000 reports logged shortly after 8 p.m. ET, a significant increase from the usual baseline. By 10 p.m. ET, the number of reports decreased to approximately 850. The outage tracker Downdetector indicated that issues were primarily centered in major cities such as New York City, Washington, DC, and Los Angeles.
In addition to Apple Music, outages were reported for Apple TV, which peaked at more than 3,000 reports just after 9:30 p.m. ET before dropping to around 1,600 by 10 p.m. ET. While Apple’s system status page did not confirm issues with Apple Music, it did indicate outages for the App Store, iTunes, and Maps.
Verizon Wireless customers also faced disruptions across the country, affecting over 1.5 million users in cities including Houston and Atlanta. USA TODAY has contacted Apple for further information regarding the ongoing situation.
