Labour has formally reported allegations of a phone hack involving Nigel Farage to the Metropolitan Police and the National Cyber Security Centre. This follows claims from Reform UK that Farage’s phone may have been compromised by Russian spies to access details of a £5 million gift from Christopher Harborne, a cryptocurrency entrepreneur.
Labour chair Anna Turley urged Reform to share any evidence regarding the alleged hacking, emphasizing the serious implications for national security and public confidence in the democratic system. In her letter to the police and the NCSC, Turley expressed concern that if Reform had not reported the incident, her correspondence should be treated as a formal notification of a serious crime.
Reform UK acknowledged reporting the situation to the relevant authorities but did not confirm whether this included the Metropolitan Police. A spokesperson for the party indicated that further comments would be inappropriate while investigations are ongoing. Farage, who has become increasingly suspicious of foreign interference, submitted his phone for forensic examination, which suggested hacking techniques linked to Russia.
