In 2025, organizations reported facing an alarming average of 1,968 cyber attacks weekly, marking a significant 70% increase from 2023. This rise is largely driven by the adoption of automation and AI by attackers, enabling them to execute faster and more synchronized assaults. Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. has released its Cyber Security Report 2026, detailing these trends in global cyber threats.
Lotem Finkelstein, VP of Research at Check Point, emphasized that the integration of AI in cyber methodologies is transforming not only the number of attacks but also their complexity. The report highlights a concerning trend where 89% of organizations encountered risky AI prompts, with approximately 1 in 41 being classified as high risk. This evolution raises alarms as AI becomes more prevalent in business operations.
Additionally, the ransomware landscape has become increasingly fragmented, with victims of extortion rising by 53% year-over-year and growth of new ransomware-as-a-service groups by 50%. Attacks are diversifying to include various platforms beyond traditional email phishing, utilizing methods that exploit human trust. The report also points out vulnerabilities in edge and infrastructure systems, with an analysis revealing that 40% of reviewed Model Context Protocol servers showed security weaknesses.
