In a recent survey conducted by Economist Impact and Telstra International, Singapore's corporate leaders demonstrated a concerning lack of engagement in digital resilience, ranking 10th out of 11 in leadership commitment. This finding is particularly alarming given Singapore's top mark in the Asia-Pacific region for overall digital resilience, thanks to strengths in risk management, workforce capability, and cultural agility.
The study, which surveyed 1,420 senior executives from various countries including Australia, mainland China, and Hong Kong, revealed that 71 percent of respondents indicated their boards or executive committees do not regularly assess the effectiveness of their digital resilience strategies. This often results in a disproportionate focus on the IT department rather than engaging the broader senior leadership.
Darren Guccione, CEO of cybersecurity platform Keeper Security, noted that while Singapore has a strong regulatory foundation, the gap between policy and practice is a growing challenge, particularly with the rise of artificial intelligence. Experts warn that without proactive leadership, Singapore may struggle to respond effectively to increasing cyber threats and technological disruptions.
