Playtonic Games is developing Super Yooka-Laylee Kart, an arcade racer that combines elements from the Yooka-Laylee series with the nostalgic feel of the original Super Mario Kart. The game was showcased during the Summer Game Fest edition of Day of the Devs on June 5, 2026, and aims to attract fans of classic racing games.
This new title features a unique Rage system, enabling players to unleash powerful abilities that can significantly alter the race's outcome. Players will engage in various modes including tournaments, time trials, and skill challenges, and will have the option to use coins earned during races for upgrades.
With local multiplayer support for up to eight players and customizable race settings, Super Yooka-Laylee Kart also emphasizes skill and strategy. Although currently in development for Steam, the potential for a release on consoles, including the anticipated Nintendo Switch 2, remains uncertain. Beta tests for the online multiplayer are expected soon.
