Following significant fan criticism, Bethesda is planning to modify the lighting and effects associated with NVIDIA’s DLSS 5 in its game Starfield. Players have expressed dissatisfaction with the AI-enhanced visuals, describing them as having an undesirable "AI slop" appearance. In response to this feedback, the studio has stated that adjustments will be made to ensure the visuals align more closely with their artistic vision.
Initially praised by Bethesda head Todd Howard as "amazing," the implementation of DLSS 5 has come under scrutiny. Howard later acknowledged that the current visuals are simply an early iteration, and further refinements will be undertaken by their art teams. NVIDIA's CEO Jensen Huang has defended DLSS 5, asserting that developers will maintain control over the appearance of their games.
In addition to these changes, Starfield is set to receive a Free Lanes Update, introducing new gameplay elements such as quests and a new vehicle. Furthermore, a paid expansion titled Terran Armada is also in development, promising to expand the game's universe and features.
