Polyarc, a VR gaming developer based in Seattle, has announced significant layoffs following unsuccessful attempts to secure funding after a major project was canceled. The company, founded in 2016 by former Bungie employees Tam Armstrong, Danny Bulla, and Chris Alderson, had approximately 52 staff members according to LinkedIn.
While the exact number of layoffs has not been disclosed, Polyarc plans to provide a spreadsheet with details about impacted employees to assist them in finding new job opportunities. The studio is known for its acclaimed Moss series, which debuted in 2018 and has since expanded to include a sequel and a multiplayer spin-off released in 2023.
The VR gaming landscape has been challenging, particularly with Meta scaling back its VR initiatives, which has led to a wave of layoffs across the industry. Other studios in the Pacific Northwest, such as Phoenix Labs and Monolith Productions, have also faced similar pressures in recent years.
