NVIDIA has unveiled DLSS 5, a groundbreaking update that leverages artificial intelligence to enhance game lighting, moving closer to photorealism. This new feature does not alter the game's geometry or textures but instead reimagines how lighting is applied, resulting in visuals that rival pre-rendered CGI.
The previous iteration, DLSS 4.5, made significant advancements in image stability and quality. Gamers have widely accepted DLSS as a transformative feature in gaming, addressing the challenges posed by transitioning from CRT to flat panel displays. Before DLSS, scaling solutions often resulted in poor visual fidelity.
In a demonstration, Digital Foundry highlighted the practical application of DLSS 5 in a real game environment, showcasing consistent performance despite the advanced graphical enhancements. Initially tested with dual RTX 5090 cards, the aim is for the technology to be accessible on a single graphics card upon release.
