Nintendo is set to reintroduce a unique gaming experience with the revamped Virtual Boy, a nostalgic nod to retro gaming enthusiasts. This new version will allow users to transform their Nintendo Switch into a Virtual Boy, enabling gameplay with a selection of specially designed 3D retro titles.
The system is priced at $99 and requires a full Switch Online subscription, including the Expansion Pack, which costs $50 annually or $80 for families. At launch, about half of the anticipated 14 titles will be available, which poses a significant investment for a niche gaming experience.
The design of the Virtual Boy viewer is notably unconventional, resembling a tabletop apparatus rather than a traditional VR headset. It features a large eyepiece that accommodates glasses and provides a glare-free viewing experience, reminiscent of vintage stereoscope machines. Although its portability may be limited, the initial impressions suggest it offers a surprisingly comfortable gaming setup.
