Universal is moving forward with a limited TV series remake of The Birds, which has been in development for over a year. The new adaptation will offer a “visceral, present-day reimagining” of the iconic 1963 film directed by Alfred Hitchcock, which is now regarded as a classic in the horror genre.
Sarah Snook, known for her role in All Her Fault, has been cast as Myra Massey, a traveling magistrate who returns to her isolated Alaskan hometown. Upon her arrival, she discovers her childhood friend has died and embarks on a quest to uncover the truth, facing mysterious bird attacks along the way.
While the original film received mixed reviews upon release, it has since influenced numerous filmmakers, including John Carpenter and Guillermo del Toro. This new series is expected to draw more directly from Daphne du Maurier’s 1952 short story than the film did. Currently, no additional cast members have been announced.
