The debut game, Gang of Dragon, from Nagoshi Studio faces a significant funding challenge as NetEase will cease financial support starting in May. The studio, established in 2021 by Toshihiro Nagoshi, known for creating the Yakuza franchise, requires $44.4 million to complete the game, according to a Bloomberg report.
Despite the funding issues, Nagoshi Studio is exploring new sponsorship opportunities but has yet to secure any. If they proceed independently, they will need to cover costs associated with maintaining their brand and assets for Gang of Dragon.
The action-adventure game, which garnered attention during a trailer reveal at The Game Awards 2025, features South Korean actor Ma Dong-Seok, famous for roles in Train to Busan and Marvel's Eternals. Nagoshi Studio's future hangs in the balance, reminiscent of NetEase's earlier decision to shut down Ouka Studio in 2024.
