Marvel Rivals, a hero shooter developed by NetEase, is set to expand significantly through 2027 with a range of new content and updates. Starting this month, players can anticipate the "Path to Doomsday" event, which will unfold over five updates, each featuring unique themes inspired by the Avengers films. The final update is scheduled for December and draws from Avengers: Doomsday.
Creative director Guangyun Chen highlighted ambitions to evolve the gameplay experience, aiming to transcend traditional 6v6 PvP formats by 2026. Players already enjoy a variety of in-game modes, alongside a social hub for viewing Wonder Man episodes. Chen expressed confidence in continuing to innovate, assuring that plans are in place to keep the game engaging without hitting a creative ceiling.
With ongoing collaborations, including tie-in comics, Marvel Rivals is closely linked to the broader Marvel universe. This summer’s “Queen in Black” event, focusing on Hela, follows the game's third season themed around symbiotes. NetEase's vision is to transform Rivals into a "comprehensive Marvel ‘moving anime’ experience," reflecting a commitment to long-term development and fan engagement.
