Fernris Creations has announced its independence from Korean firm Pearl Abyss, completing a buyout valued at $120 million. The studio, originally known as CCP Games, is recognized for its popular MMORPG, EVE Online, which allows players to engage in activities across a vast universe comprising over 7,000 star systems.
In conjunction with this transition, Fernris Creations is entering a research partnership with Google DeepMind, which has acquired a minority stake in the company. This collaboration aims to enhance understanding of intelligence within complex systems and will involve testing AI models using an offline version of EVE Online.
Demis Hassabis, the CEO of Google DeepMind, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, highlighting the potential for innovation in gaming and AI research. The partnership is expected to explore AI-driven gaming experiences and leverage the intricate dynamics of player interactions within the game.
