In the evolving landscape of PC gaming, a significant portion of players may be opting for less expensive graphics cards than previously thought. Despite the introduction of high-end models, many gamers still favor budget-friendly options, as highlighted by Steam's Hardware Survey data from 2026. The survey reveals that the most popular GPU remains the Nvidia RTX 3060, a nearly five-year-old model, while the RTX 4060 variants account for almost 8% of usage among surveyed players.
The findings also show that the latest RTX 50-series cards, including the RTX 5060, rank low in popularity. Among the surveyed GPUs, the RTX 3080 appears at number 19, indicating a preference for older, budget-oriented options over high-end models. Additionally, the traditional 1080p resolution is still the primary choice for over 50% of gamers, with only a small percentage opting for higher resolutions like 1440p and 4K.
This trend suggests that many gamers may not need the latest high-performance GPUs, especially as the requirements for most games can often be met with more affordable alternatives.
