Netflix is expanding its slate of adaptations by acquiring the rights to the board game Ticket to Ride from Asmodee. This initiative marks a significant step as the streaming service looks to diversify its content beyond video games, with plans to develop multiple projects across various formats including film and television.
The first project in this new venture will be a feature film co-written by Ben Mekler and Chris Amick. Alan R. Moon, the original creator of Ticket to Ride, is set to executive produce the film, which will be the game's inaugural adaptation for the screen.
Ticket to Ride, a popular train-themed strategy game, has sold over 20 million copies since its release over two decades ago and is available in more than 30 languages. Netflix had previously announced plans to adapt another board game, Catan, further illustrating its commitment to bringing board game IP to a wider audience.
In addition to these adaptations, Netflix has also partnered with Hasbro to create a game show based on Monopoly, expected to launch in early 2025.
